Imi Loa Na Hoku- Explore the Stars
In this beautiful night experience, guests can experience the beautiful night sky, and learn about how ancient Polynesian voyagers navigated to Hawaii.
Ancient Polynesians traveled great distances across the Pacific Ocean, navigating without GPS, maps or high-tech equipment. For direction, they looked to clues from nature, such as:
- The rising and setting of the sun
- The position of the stars and moon
- Environmental factors, like ocean swells, winds, currents and birds
The stars played a vital role in early sea travel. Stars, unlike planets, remain in the same position throughout the year. Stars near the horizon are guiding stars, providing seafarers a sense of direction. Guests have the ability to learn all about this, through the Imi Loa Na Hoku experience.
